Principal's Message 23-24

At Washington Elementary, we have a deeply rooted belief that elementary school is a place to equip scholars with a solid foundation to help mold them into 21st century learners and prepare them to be college and career ready. Our goal is to provide a well-rounded education that meets the academic and social and emotional needs of our students. We strive to include critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity into all instructional practices to assist the students in preparation for the future.

Washington Elementary is a rich, academic environment centered on the students’ needs and educational goals. We teach a comprehensive program with the goal of high academic achievement for every child. We are a compassionate school and regard mutual respect as the foundation to creating positive, constructive relationships within our school community. We are committed to providing our students with diverse and supportive programs. Washington Elementary provides a safe, secure, stimulating, and motivating learning environment where staff, students and families really care about one another and are working towards a common goal of student success.

Simple and strategic implementations coupled with accountability measures have led to a shift in both the culture and the narrative of this Title I school. In just one year, Washington Elementary went from being the lowest-performing elementary school in the district to being recognized for its best practices, academic gains, and even becoming a California Exemplary Arts Education School, which includes only 19 schools in the state. Washington Elementary was also one of 9 national schools to be named a Model School from the International Center for Leadership in Education.

Washington Elementary was selected as a 2023 Model School for its focus on relationships and rigorous and relevant academics to impact students. The team at Washington Elementary recognizes opportunities for growth, fosters a strong culture, and holds high expectations for all students. We are dedicated to fostering a learning environment where students feel challenged, supported, inspired, and are exposed to a plethora of opportunities to help develop them as a whole person. Washington Elementary is the true definition of a team whose top priority is the success of our students and the success of one another.
